So yes, similar to December, we admit our outputs on the creative fronts have been a little slow as well this month. It’s totally not our style to stick to a rigid schedule and/or even give reasons to anyone why something has or has not been done on our independent fronts. But we do feel a bit obligated to share with you fine folks that this is 100% due to my wife and I’s house construction. After 3+ years of being in house limbo, we are now in the final phase which means we only have a little bit longer to go to get across the checkered finish line.
Building things with your hands will never go out of style. But man, it’s mentally and physically exhausting. This house stuff has been so back breakingly brutal because we’ve chosen to save a whole bunch of money by doing the demo ourselves, as well as many of the final detail stuff such as painting, cabinets, flooring, trim, and other finishing details. Which makes writing super tough because you really need to block out entire full days to write and can’t really do it an hour here or an hour there.
Cleaning out the attic of this house was the worst job I’ve ever personally done FYI. Imagine the grosses attic you can think of and then double it and that was this attic - Fiberglass, asbestos, dirty insulation, 100,000+ mouse turds, etc… The only things missing were a decomposing corpse and pool of radioactive waste. So now that the worst of it is behind us, we are now seeing the fruits of this labor pay off with a nearly completed new home which is now getting better every day instead of grosser and grosser every day. And this small farmhouse we’ve been taking on is proving to live up to the original plan of making our living situation sustainable and allow for us to continue to be creative for many years into the future.
A few months of slowness is a bit of an anomaly for our outputs the last couple years. As we’ve typically been quite good at having a somewhat regular monthly output schedule. If we shoot an episode of Shamans of the Global Village in a self-contained short period we can still do post and essay outputs on the side quite regularly while editing it. Yet, if we take on another feature in the style of Transmutation, which we certainly would like to down the line, that would be us having to slow other outputs for multiple years, so this lull is really not that long of a downtime period at all. Yet, we still want to let you special people know, our outputs will be back here a bit more regularly in not too long and we’re really looking forward to getting back to documentary / essay writing as well as some potential course creation which is on the future "to do" list.
So much going on in the world currently, much of which feels like a bit of a roller coaster. So we hope you are not only hanging in there but thriving during this extra challenging time.
